Following The Electrician

I absolutley love following electricians. When they have to replace knob & tube wiring, they have to make holes in every ceiling and wall of the house. Then I get a call to finish the repairs and paint everything. The electricians in this house cut relatively small holes and used an ultra light weight compound as fill. Then we covered it with a coat of joint compound before sanding, spot priming, and painting.

This 1902 West Philadelphia victorian house had a parlor on the 1st floor. Someone previously painted the woodwork a brownish-purple color and the ceiling was almost yellow. We used a white ceiling paint and Jade Dragon in a matte finish for the walls; satin on the trim and mantle.

The dining room had some lovely wallpaper and woodwork that the electrians and I preserved. We made the semi-gloss yellow ceiling into Chopsticks, and I matched the walls above the paper to keep it the same color.

The kitchen went from a semi-gloss yellow to a flat white ceiling paint and the very popular Oyster White on the walls.

I usually show several more colors, but I have the opposite on this post. The owners of this house had what they called "decision fatigue," and they had to paint the rest of the house after we finished the repairs. There were 7 bedrooms, 2 stairwells, and 3 hallways! So, they used the stock color, Extra White, on all of the walls and got rid of the existing pale yellow hallways. Of course, we also painted the ceilings in flat white.
