Small House. Big Work.

This house located in Society Hill was built in the 1960s to look like it was historic. It was much better construction and style than the garbage that I see going up today. Effort was made to make it look like "Philadelphia." The interior was full of cosmetic details that the new owners did not like. That prompted them to call me. This was not a big house, but it was a very large project that took my team over 2 weeks to complete.

The living room and stairwell to the 2nd floor had some wallpaper that was extremely difficult to remove. After that was done, we repaired the walls and painted everything, except the ceiling. We ever painted the shutters. The crown molding matched the chair rail and below with Benjamin Moore's Williamsburg Wythe Blue, the walls above the chair rail and in the stairwell were Capitol White, and all of the woodwork was Lime White. The problem that we had was the Lime White did not cover the creamy color that someone else previously painted, so it took 3 coats to cover everything.

There was a small 1/2 bath between the kitchen and living room. It also had some stubborn wallpaper with too much glue behind it. We conquered it then painted the walls with Raleigh Peach and Capitol White on the trim.

They chose Ewing Blue for the kitchen walls, but that did not match the painted cabinets. So they got Waterbury Green. Capitol White went on the trim again. They also decided to not highlight the picture frame molding as was done before.

The basement was not a big change or upgrade. It just got a refresh with a lighter color. They used Lime White on the walls and Capitol White on the trim.

There were 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Each of them had their own challenges. The first one has more of that onerous wallpaper. We used Saybrook Sage on the walls and Capitol white on the endless trim and shutters.

The other bedroom had a massive built-in bookcase. The owners wanted to remove it, but it would have been too much money to deal with the repairs. So, we painted it Capitol White with the rest of the trim and put Chamber Yellow on the walls.

Finally, the top floor was this wonderful open space, including the stairwell. We used Saybrook Sage on the walls and Dove Wing on the trim.

I was very happy that we could transform this house and meet the new owner's vision. This was far from a cheap project in a 1575 sq ft house, but we got all of the details.
