I was very sad to see my neighbors move to Mt. Airy, but I am very lucky that they trusted me to repair and paint their massive 6 bedroom house after electricians and HVAC people did their thing. The house was a beautiful example of what is available in that area of the city with gorgeous details and endless woodwork.
This project included countless holes to repair, a stairwell of wallpaper to remove, and patience to paint all the wood windows. We finished 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a 3 story stairwell, the dining room, and the living room.
Sherwin-Williams is currently having supply issues, so we have been using Benjamin Moore paints. I prefer Sherwin-Williams paints, because their price point is much lower for their high quality materials as compared to Benjamin Moore. You pay much more for slightly better quality with Ben Moore.
We painted most of the walls in Ivory White in a matte finish on the walls and a semi-gloss on the trim. The difference in sheen was enough to create some good contrast. It may be hard to see that in the 3rd floor bedrooms and bathroom below.
Their master bedroom was painted with the perfect gray, Revere Pewter, and Ivory White on the trim. Seriously, if you like grey, use Revere Pewter.
They were somewhat daring with the dark Vintage Vogue in matte for the walls and semi-gloss on the woodwork. After the busy 2021 of painting everyone’s house white, off-white, or light gray, this was refreshing.
Removing wallpaper is never easy, and this was no exception. 3 people spent a week in this stairwell. I’m not sure how many people read this, so I only have one photo to share here. We also painted Ivory White in this area, including the spindles.
Finally, here are some images of the dining room. Again, they chose Ivory White for this area.
